A GREAT DAY OUT

Welcome all Walkers, Ramblers and anyone interested in a spot of culture in the fresh Irish Country Air!

On Sunday 26th July, a Charity Walk will take place amidst the rolling hills and Drumlin Strewn County Monaghan Countryside that so inspired one of Ireland’s most famous poets, Patrick Kavanagh.

Joining the walkers during the day will be Larry Mc Dermot, a local historian, full of fascinating information about the Monaghan Way, its history and folklore

As we walk we will be visiting places where one of Ireland’ greatet literary figures grew up as a child, went to school and of course, the immortalised Stony Grey Soil of Monaghan that burgled his bank of youth!

On the day there will be 2 walks from which to choose, a six mile one in the morning or 14 miles long if you and your friends want to make a day of it, concluding with a Celebratory Barbeque, an entertaining talk by Art Mc Aleer and live music.

On the morning of 26th July, Walkers will meet between 9.00 am to 9.30 am in The Inniskeen Community Centre, a village in the heart of Monaghan, near the Louth border and home to the poet.

From here we will be taken by bus to Castleblaney’s Lough Muckno, the official part of the trek at 10.00 am Around 1.00 p.m. we will stop and rest in the border Town of Culloville where a tasty well-deserved lunch will be served to all

Refreshment stops will be in position along the route in the morning and afternoon to keep spirits high

Organised by Vita in conjunction with Conlon’s Food Hall in Dundalk, the Kavanagh Walk is in aid of underprivileged children in Ethiopia, Kenya and Eritrea.

So, if tempted to immerse yourself in all things Kavanagh for a special day out, you need pack only 4 things;
