By virtue of their least adaptive capacities, Least Developed Countries including Eritrea are most vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. Due to the changing and unpredictable patterns of precipitation, rain-fed based agricultural production, which is the main economic stay for over 80% of the population, is severely diminished. As a result Millions of children and their families are food insecure and at worst go to bed hungry without a loaf of bread; perhaps embracing death by their side.
While the lives of millions of children are risked for lack of bread a day in Africa; how many people in the developed world including Ireland would see food spoiled by their pets a day? A little of tax payers money would change this trend. We have seen many poor communities become food secure through an effective transition from rain-fed to irrigated agriculture. Hence, Ireland’s assistance to these poor people (mostly children and women) should rather be strengthened; as a further cut however small it might be; would mean depriving many children of their basic rights to better life and education.

I have often received help and support from people here in Ethiopia and Irish people’s generosity to others, including people in Ethiopia, is well expressed in Irish Aid support to development activities.
Oliver Ryan, Vita Country Director Ethiopia
Aid from Ireland contributes for the improvement of life for millions in Ethiopia. Further funding cuts means reduced impact of the existing development activities funded by Ireland aid in southern region of Ethiopia. A further cut of fund for me is like refusing an embryo the opportunity to spend nine months in its mother’s womb.
Solomon Kebede, Vita Communications and Reporting Director, Ethiopia
Ireland's aid programme expresses the human solidarity that man does not live for him/her self alone, but also for others. The Irish people through Irish Aid serves others who are in need sincerely and freely, thus the stronger member serves the weaker member.
