Vita is delighted announce three exciting events in Ethiopia this year. “We wanted to do something very different, that was part charity challenge and part responsible tourism... a holiday that will challenge you, but will also hugely help the communities you visit,” explains Deirdre. Following on from last’s years inaugural event which was hugely successful, The Great Ethiopian Run 2011 (November) is an international 10km high-altitude race founded by the legendary, world record breaking Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebreselassie. All are welcome from competitive runners to casual walkers; everyone is cheered by the crowds of Addis Ababa. For the less sporty, Vita are organising a walking tour from village to village in Southern Ethiopia, which remains largely un-touched by the modern world and is home to over 20 unique tribes. In October, Vita will embark on a Birdwatching in Ethiopia trip, where participants will spot some of the counrty’s 862 recorded species of birds, and visit some community-led projects in Southern Ethiopia.
