| | | Programmes: Tackling Hunger & Building Sustainable Livelihoods |
| |
| | It is unacceptable that 1 billion people on the planet are hungry today. Vita’s programme countries of Eritrea, Ethiopia and Kenya are food insecure which is made worse by the impact of Climate Change on mostly rain fed agriculture. Without sufficient nutritious food people can never develop and achieve their potential. Vita is working to tackle hunger by working with rural communities to increase food production, access markets, generate sustainable incomes while conserving and enhancing the local environment.
Vita’s strategy of Building Sustainable Livelihoods in its programme countries of Eritrea, Ethiopia and Kenya is a community based and people-centred development strategy.
It gives local people the opportunity to create their own vision of what is possible within their own community by building on community achievements, existing strengths and local skills.
Local people therefore become actively involved in all stages of planning, implementation and evaluation.
By building a vision of a better future that is grounded in past achievements, community members empower themselves and are better able to determine their future.
All Vita programmes take into account the changes being brought about by climate change and help local people to adapt to these changes.
