|  | | Vita Ethiopia – Water | | | Vita’s main contribution to the livelihoods of the Hammer people has been an increase in access to potable water for both domestic use and for watering animals through maintenance of existing wells as well as drilling 5 new wells. The 5 new wells have increased access to water for an estimated 300 households for drinking, livestock and horticulture.
The result has been a reduction in the burden for women by providing water near to their villages.
In Hammer 2 rainwater ponds were rehabilitated and as a result water for livestock was prolonged for 3 months.
In Arba Minch town a water point was constructed in 2008 and now serves 1,200 people. In addition a water point damaged by floods has been maintained and has resumed service.
In Chencha area 200 wells have been dug to water for the irrigation of vegetables and apple trees. | | | | | | | |
