| | January 2009 | | | | | | | | Vita launches the “Buy a Miracle Tree” Campaign 2009 | | | Irish charity Vita launches the “Buy a Miracle Tree” campaign 2009. This campaign focuses on the vital importance of trees, in particular the Moringa tree, to the sustainable livelihoods for the people of Africa. This campaign will take place in schools throughout Ireland this spring, with each participating registered school receiving a fun and educational special “Buy a Miracle Tree” School Pack. The campaign happens from now, during National Tree Week which runs from the 1st to the 8th of March, and up until the school year. The trees bought will then be planted in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Vita representatives will be contacting schools and actively encouraging students to become involved in the Buy a Miracle Tree Campaign by sponsoring a Moringa tree for planting in Eritrea and Ethiopia. This is a great opportunity to help the people of Eritrea and Ethiopia to combat a life of poverty and starvation and at the same time be involved in the protection and development of African forests. Schools can sign up by registering on www.vita.ie or emailing Vita at info@vita.ie.
Buy A Miracle Tree Campaign Manager, Jenny Douglas, urged students to get involved. “The “Buy a Miracle Tree” campaign is the perfect way to educate pupils of the importance of trees and the link to poverty reduction in Africa. The campaign will enable thousands more Moringa trees to be planted in Ethiopia and Eritrea and encourages involvement in the protection and development of forests in these regions.”
Although native to India and North Africa, the story of the amazing Moringa tree is known to relief workers agents and medical workers around the world. In recent years, Vita introduced the Buy a Miracle Tree Campaign into Eritrea and Ethiopia as part of their ‘Building Sustainable Livelihoods Program’ to combat poverty and hunger. With the aid of Horticulturists, Vita carefully planted and nurtured the growth of hundreds of Miracle Trees in local seed nurseries. The trees were then distributed to as many communities and families as possible. The results exceeded the highest expectations. The trees grew, providing an abundance of lifesaving food, medicines and clean water everywhere they were planted.
About Vita Vita is an Irish international development agency established in 1989.
