Building Sustainable Livelihoods
The Story of the Moringa “Miracle Tree”

Moringa Trees, Carbon Setting, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Charitable Donation, Carbon Offset, Donate to Charity
Although native to India and North Africa, the story of the wonderful Moringa Tree is known to relief agents and medical workers worldwide. In recent years, Vita introduced the Miracle Tree into Eritrea as part of our Building Sustainable Livelihoods Program to combat poverty and starvation.

Under the supervision of qualified horticulturists we carefully planted and nurtured the growth of hundreds of Miracle Trees in local seed nurseries.

Then we distributed the young trees to as many communities and families as we possibly could. The results exceeded our highest expectations. The trees grew, providing an abundance of lifesaving food, medicines and clean water everywhere it was planted.

These Ethiopian women have just received their Moringa Tree from Vita staff. The introduction of the Moringa tree in this area by Vita provides sustenance for families during the acute food shortages that occur in the long dry seasons.

Because the Moringa Tree produces leaves during the dry season and during times of drought, it is a life giving source of green vegetable when little other food is available.

It is fast growing and grows best in arid conditions, making it ideal for mass planting to stave off encroachment by blowing desert sands. It can also be grown as a living fence, helping to prevent overgrazing cattle and other animals.

Ounce for ounce, the leaves of the Moringa tree have more than three times the calcium of milk, slightly more potassium than bananas, more than twice the iron of spinach, and more than twice the vitamin C of Oranges. Truly it is a …'Miracle Tree'

This is a wonderful, life-saving and life-giving tree.

It is drought tolerant and in many areas of the world dishwater or wastewater provides the Moringa tree with all the nutrients they require to continue to work their ongoing miracle of providing food, medicine and clean water for all who are lucky enough to have these trees growing nearby.
